Low
Tide High
First
played in July of 1997, this was the ninth original written pre-Fungus
times. This song was originally titled "My Cousin
Fungus", but was changed to it's present name in May of 1998 when
the band re-christened itself Cousin Fungus.
Low
Tide High appears on 1998's "Thoughts of a Moth" and is still
played frequently by the band, often as a closer or an opener. The
lyrics were written by Dave "Gummy" Gershfeld.
Lyrics
Don't
depreciate your cousin fungus
Life began beneath a stone
At the bottom of the ocean
It lives there still in the cold dark deep and
It needs to know it's loved
A field mouse mates in the tall green grass
Her moans lost in the wind
Love is hard to find
Detached from the act that fates her race,
She loves to survive
Fish-lizard slithers to a beach bonanza
The first tracks within the sand are
washed out to the sea
The king of the land and its torrid shores
is not the king anymore
High in a tree, the monkey sees his future
Unsure of the plan, he descends to the plain
Aware of the change, but feeling the same,
he forgets the past
Ditch digger makes his life in the earth
His worth is not determined
by the dirt he displaces
He brings home a book for his children to read
Because he can't afford TV
