Down
the Line
This
short little number was first performed when the band was Stash.
The first known appearance of Down the Line was at New York Ave. on
11/05/2026 [Huntington, NY].
Although
Down the Line appears on 1998's "Thoughts of a Moth", it has
not been played by the band since January 2001. Down the Line was
written by D. Belline and H. Stanziale. The lyrics were written by
D. Belline, B. Zwerlein and T. Stanziale.
Lyrics
Damn
my sweet Loretta, she says that she's all mine
But I don't get no loving' if I ain't to work by nine
So to hell with her, I'd rather be sippin' on cherry wine
It's better than walking down the line
Billy Ray Bourbon was a good old boy, and a real fine friend of mine
Sittin' on a stump by the factory wall, and we reckoned that the sun was
shinin'
"Let's get on down to the fishin' hold, grab my fishin' pole
Loretta won't know.
Got my hook and line, cherry wine, pretty soon we'll be flyin'
Walkin' down the line waste my drinkin' time
My old lady was mad as hell when she found out I was lyin'
I'd rather be down by the fishin' hole
with a fifth of black cherry wine, it's better than walkin' down the
line
Sweet Loretta please, I didn't mean to lie to you
When I saw them catfish jumpin', there wasn't nothin' that a man can do
So take off all your clothes, I'm gonna make it all up to you
Oh, don't leave me blue, I'll show you what this man can do
(Repeat Chorus)
